What is Linux, and why teach it to children first?
The short answer
Linux is a free operating system that runs most servers, cloud platforms and security tools. Teaching it first gives children a real view of how computers work, and the terminal skills carry into cybersecurity, cloud and data careers. It also makes every later track easier.
What is an operating system?
It is the software that manages a computer’s parts and lets programs share them. Windows, macOS and Android are operating systems. Linux is another, and the one most servers use.
Why start with Linux?
It shows how things work instead of hiding them. A child who can read a file listing, check memory and move around folders understands what apps are built on.
Is it too hard for a 10 year old?
Not when taught one idea at a time with a safe lab. A disposable machine means mistakes cost nothing.
